The first meeting of the Working Committee for the establishment of a club for former students of Jahangirnagar University was held on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at Amana Food Valley, Level-3, SKS Tower, Mohakhali, Dhaka-1212

The meeting was chaired by Mr. Gp. Capt. Ameerul Ahsan (Retd.), upon the request of the members of the Working Committee. He thanked everybody for attending the meeting. He subsequently asked Mr. A. Y. M. Saif Ullah to moderate the session and proceed according to the agenda. The moderator briefed the attendees on the purpose and objectives of convening the Working Committee meeting.

The meeting was informed that, during the 2nd meeting of the JU Focus Group held on May 25, 2024, at the Golf Club, Dhaka, a Working Committee was formed to establish a club for former students of Jahangirnagar University (JU). The moderator, Mr. A. Y. M. Saif Ullah, then expressed his gratitude to all Working Committee members for attending.

The meeting was informed that, during the 2nd meeting of the JU Focus Group held on May 25, 2024, at the Golf Club, Dhaka, a Working Committee was formed to establish a club for former students of Jahangirnagar University (JU). The moderator, Mr. A. Y. M. Saif Ullah, then expressed his gratitude to all Working Committee members for attending.

As one of the primary purposes of the meeting was to gather inputs from the members and to decide on the key provisions of the Memorandum of Association (MoA) and Articles of Association (AoA) for the proposed club, the moderator requested Mr. Md. Nazrul Islam Chowdhury FCS, to initiate the discussion on the various provisions of the MoA and AoA.

The meeting was convened to decide on the name of the club and to discuss the clearance received from RJSC. The following three names were found to be available at the RJSC, while other names proposed by members earlier were not approved according to the RJSCs name clearance policy:

  1. JU Alumni Club Ltd.
  2. Jabian Club Ltd. (JCL)
  3. Jahangirnagar Alumni Club Ltd

The meeting was convened to decide on the name of the club and to discuss the clearance received from RJSC. The following three names were found to be available at the RJSC, while other names proposed by members earlier were not approved according to the RJSCs name clearance policy:

After an in-depth discussion of around 30 minutes, the meeting unanimously decided to adopt the second name (i.e., Jabian Club Ltd.) to avoid any potential conflicts with other prominent initiatives undertaken by various JU alumni. The following resolution was passed:

The meeting discussed the membership categories and types for the proposed club. It was emphasized that priority should be given to finalizing the provisions of the MoA & AoA to enable the promoters to submit the application for club registration with the RJSC. It was suggested that future membership types could be designed by the Executive Committee in the best interest of the club. The members proposed the following two broad categories of membership:

  1. Regular Member (members with voting rights)
  2. Special Member (members with no-voting rights)

4.2 Discussion:

The meeting discussed the admission fees and periodic subscriptions for various categories of membership. After a detailed discussion, the following fee structure was finalized for the initial members under various categories, to remain in effect until the Executive Committee and the Annual General Meeting decide otherwise. It was also agreed that the Executive Committee shall periodically review and adjust the fee structure and subscription rates for the various categories of membership as needed.

Any Alumni member of Jahangirnahar University who completed Bachelor Degree will be eligible to become a member of the club. No other degree from JU could be considered here for Jabian Club Ltd. membership. The entry of a member to the club shall be managed by a Member Selection Committee who will confirm after receiving application and ensure strict compliance with this rule. No restricted, black listed alumni will be allowed as club member in any time. The Executive Committee shall formulate a policy for membership selection process.

5.2 Discussion:

Any Alumni member of Jahangirnahar University who completed Bachelor Degree will be eligible to become a member of the club. No other degree from JU could be considered here for Jabian Club Ltd. membership. Initially decided as in Focus Group Discussion, Founder Members were welcome with Tk. 100,000 subscription with no mention of a cut off number. This has been raised as a question to this Team how to limit the number of Founder Members by Invitation. After extensive discussion Maximum number has been fixed at 100 till the time of subscription. And soon after opening the bank account a declaration would be made on to deposit the money to the bank account within 7 days. Those who will fail to deposit the money within the stipulated date will be rejected. Hence, the opportunity will go to the ones in the waiting list

Among the approached 100 members of JU Club (Founder Members) What'sApp Group, a digital (along with manual) form will be distributed. All the founder members should fill up and submit the form and within 7 days of account opening they have to deposit the money. Both the steps should be completed to confirm the position of Founder member. (Digital form also require physical sign but it could be done anytime during whole process completion)

8.2 Discussion:

The committee discussed about the subscribers to the MOA & AOA. The subscribers to the MoA & AoA are the persons who have to face and deal various regulatory authority including NSI, RJSC and others during the incorporation stage who will have to take the trouble and responsibility to visit and comply various requirements of the regulators in order to complete the registration process and so forth. They will be responsible all paper works, application and complying all requirements required by regulators time to time till the Executive Committee is formed. So, the committee requested the chair of the meeting to select 21 names of persons who will be the subscriber to MOA & AOA. Finally, the meeting requested Mr. Alamgir Kabir Porag JU20 Physics, Md Monirul Hassan (Sujon) JU22 Physics and Mr. A Y M Saif Ullah JU21 English to identify those 21 people based on their profile, experience, life history, suitability and contribution, etc. for subscribing the MOA & AOA so that no objection arises from any regulatory authority during the incorporation stages. Mr. Porag, Mr. Sujon and Mr. Saif accepted the request of the committee and would take the final call privately to select these names from the list of subscribers to the MOA & AOA.
